"One of the best kept secrets of California's Shasta Cascade region in northern California." This area is rich in diversity and serves as a crossroads natural for almost any outdoor recreational activity that can be conceived. Within an hour of Redding off I-5, either direction, one can experience inspiring snow peaks for anything from skiing, snow shoeing, hiking and dog sledding, rich, deep forests, open grassland, hills and even the ground the desert!
In this wonderland well preserved, there is no shortage of water activities as you have to try hard not to want to fall into the many lakes, such as Shasta, Whiskeytown, Almanor, Trinity, Oroville, Lewiston and Eagle, among many others that the Shasta Cascade has to offer. Besides the abundance of lake access, There is a veritable multitude of rivers that run through too. Famous Sacramento River gets its start in the beautiful Mount Shasta from the city and from there you can follow the whole way through the region as it grows and spreads. Trinity, Feather, McCloud, Pit, Susan and Klamath rivers also roam here and there through the majestic landscape of the 8 different municipalities that comprise the region.
With all that water, are not required to be fish and, in fact, the region of Shasta Cascade has some of the best fishing areas in the state. If you are fishing in a boat, or jump with both feet for a little fly fishing, the Shasta Cascade is the dream the fisherman! This year has been fantastic for trout and rainbow trout fishing with a daily limit at the bottom of Sacramento up to 15 trout per day! Take a look at Anderson River Park for a great place to sit along the river while enjoying the scenery of this lush and beautiful park. There is an expert fisherman? Make it a weekend to remember dating one of the many professional and talented guides as the Salmon King Lodge of Red Bluff, where guides easily and can answer any question you can throw at them. If you are looking for something a little more off the road, lost in the beauty of Trinity County, while fish along the Trinity River. Or, head north to Hat Creek, near Burney, stopping to see the impressive Burney Falls while you're at it.
