The Point Theater – The O2 is situated on the north side of Dublin, North Wall Quay of the River Liffey in the Docklands area in the city. The point, as it is known commonly, is having a makeover and will reopen in December 2008.

This brand new state of the art house to have a high noise quality. Moreover, the new theater will have a capacity increase of 13,000 compared with the previous capacity of 8,500 seats. Historically, the point was stressed by the diversity of its entertainment programs, not only highlighted the cream of Irish and international music talent U2, David Bowie, REM to Kylie Minogue and Beyoncé ©, but it has in the past has been transformed into a skating rink, a boxing arena, an exhibition center, a wrestling ring, a theater, an opera house and the circus!

Unfortunately, these dates are sold out.

The Kings of Leon, who wowed the crowd in oxygen this summer, conducting the Friday 19 December. Tickets are available for this purpose. This American hard rock band indie has a legion of fans worldwide, and are currently recording their fourth album "Only by the Night" to be published in September 2008. The O2 is located northwall Quay in Dublin 1, just 20 minutes walk from O'Connell Bridge to the north. From O'Connell Street, go to the docks at Northside and downtown IFSC in the venue is. The 02 is positioned opposite Dublin Port and facing the East Link Toll Bridge.

History of the O2 arena …

The original location was built as train station in 1878 to service Dublin port. In the 1980s, after years of neglect and abandonment, was acquired by property developer Harry Crosbie and transformed into an office and manufacturing space. U2 recorded the seller of its million plus "Rattle and Hum" album here, along with some video footage.

The point as we knew before the renewal of 2007 opened in 1988 as a concert venue and events. U2 closed its "Lovetown tour there in 1989 to the late eighties and announce the beginning of the nineties. You may recall the entire decade nineties, the Point Depot became almost a home of the annual Eurovision Song Contest, including Ireland, won the competition 3 times in 4 years. Held the competition in 1994, 1995 and 1997, and millions of viewers could see this majestic musical theater for themselves on television. Indeed, the great Irish musical "Riverdance" was first enacted a captive audience for the Eurovision Song Contest 1994.

1999 saw the MTV Europe Music Awards hosted at the Point Theater.

The last high-level event to present at the point, before extensive refurbishment was a boxing event, showing Irish boxer Bernard Dunne, in August 2007.
